GENEVA GARDEN CLUB General Meeting Minutes
December 1, 2015
DRAFT
The meeting was called to order by President Debbie Notaro at 12:04PM. Debbie welcomed everyone and extended Merry Christmas wishes to all.
Secretary’s Report: Secretary Julie Brown confirmed the meeting minutes from November and a motion was made to accept the minutes with one correction on a spelling error on the word “Secretary,” go figure. A motion was made by Glorianne Campbell and seconded by Bonnie Kovacs.
Treasure’s report: Treasurer’s Report was given by Julie Maturo, total amounts in each account were shared.
Vice President’s Report: Sheila Persinger shared that next month’s program will be Grow It Socially, Garden App Demonstration by Seth Reed. Sounds interesting.
Committee Reports:
Membership: Kristie Dienst introduced today’s 3 guests, Pat, Dotty and Sandy.
Scholarship: No report
Ways and Means: Vicki Deane reported that we still have aprons, note cards and gloves for sale. All would make great Christmas gifts. We are still looking for someone to chair the upcoming Plant Sale in the spring. Please consider.
Communications: Tammy Chiovari reported that the photo gallery on our Website is now up and working. Yeah! The SignUp Genius will now be sent directly from the GGC instead of through Linda Brodine as this will be easier and allow us to see more that is available. If you are in another organization that uses SignUp Genius, all will be available in one spot.
Legislation: Glorianne Campbell gave us an overview of why we as a club became Incorporated and insured on our own instead of relying on the Garden Clubs of Illinois to provide this coverage for us. It turned out that we really weren’t covered at all and this could have proven devastating for us in the future if anything ever arose. Thanks!
Publicity: No report
Hospitality: Jane Martin welcomed everyone and introduced the Hostess committee.
Always on Tuesday: No report
Historian: Ginny Dushney shared that the now very popular Geneva Chamber event, The Christmas House Tour/Walk, was originally started by the GGC back in the early 1980’s and tickets were $7.50. Wow. It was taken over totally by the Chamber many years ago and tickets are now $30.00. Thanks Ginny.
Assemblage: No report
Community Service /Civic Projects: Chris Shaw reported that the planters at CASA, Living Well and the History Museum are all done and look lovely. Thank you to Noel Storm for donating the ornaments used at Living Well. Kristie Dienst gave a shout out to Debbie N. and Chris for all their efforts to make this happen. Kristie helped for the first time and was not aware of all that goes into making these planters look so beautiful!
Arbor Day: Susan V. reported that a total of 12 trees were planted this fall through the Geneva Park District, 5 being oak trees.
Library Arrangements: We are all signed up through June.
Other business: Awards Chair- We are still looking for someone to take this on. Please consider.
The Plant Sale is set for June 3, 4, and 5 at the home of Cathy Rex. Will be looking for plant donations and there will be a planning meeting sometime in January.
If you are looking to share/network information that isn’t really Garden Club appropriate, please consider doing this at the end of our meetings and keep whatever it is brief, about 30 seconds and then complete business after meeting.
Tammy shared that new member Joyce who lives in Millcreek has her house decorated and is very popular for all to see, even has coordinated holiday music.
Poinsettia Glow is today from 4-6PM at Shady Hill.
Friends of the Library book sale is this weekend.
Susan VanderVeen just volunteered to Co-chair the Garden Walk with Mary S! Thanks Susan.
Please consider having Linda Brodine’s granddaughter wrap your Christmas gifts, she even will come to your home. And lastly, see Kristie D. if you would like to support Geneva Community Chest by purchasing a Raffle ticket for $10.00, will be a drawing each month.
A motion to adjourn the meeting was made at 12:55PM by Glorianne Campbell and seconded by Susan VanderVeen.
Respectfully submitted by Secretary Julie Brown
