Advancing Home Gardening • Community Beautification • Horticultural Education in Geneva, Illinois

PLEASE NOTE: The Geneva Garden Club has changed its general meetings to the second Tuesday of the month, September through May. Next up is our November meeting which will take place Tuesday, November 12 beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the Stephen R. Persinger Center in Geneva.

Our History

The Geneva Garden Club, a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization, was founded in the fall of 1928 and is a member of the Garden Clubs of Illinois as well as the National Garden ClubsThis year the Geneva Garden Club celebrated its 96th birthday.  This is quite an accomplishment, and throughout its existence its goals have remained the same: beautification of the community, preservation of our natural environment, and the promotion of horticultural education. The club and its members have undertaken many projects over the years to further these goals.

Honoring 20 Year Members

Recently our Club honored members with 20 years of membership in the Geneva Garden Club. Over the years these ladies have made significant contributions to the Club and we thank them for their service and look forward to working with them in the coming months and years.

GGC 2024 Scholarship

This spring the Geneva Garden Club awarded $13,000 to six very deserving Geneva students. We are truly excited to see the many ways these six individuals will affect positive change in our world.

Garden Club Park

Garden Club Park has been completely rebuilt and redesigned in a joint project with the Geneva Park District, the city of Geneva, and the Geneva Garden Club.  After a long winter of demolition and construction equipment, Garden Club Park is once again open to visitors!  Throughout the summer, GGC members have been volunteering their time and talents, along with many of their own plants, to beautify the garden.  We hope you will stop by and see the progress as the garden matures.  Garden Club Park is located along the river, one block north of State Street on North River Lane, next to Riverside Banquets.

Kane County Jail Garden

The Geneva Garden Club is in its 5th year working with Sheriff Ron Hain for the Kane County Jail Garden Program.  This unique program provides opportunities for select detainees to learn about planting, maintaining, and harvesting vegetables and flowers. In order to participate the detainees have to earn and maintain the privilege through excellent behavior while in custody.  It has been a huge success and a highlight for the GGC members who have volunteered for the program.

Sheriff’s Office Honors GGC

During the Harvest Luncheon, Sheriff Hain and his Diversion Team honored the GGC by dedicating the garden courtyard to the Geneva Garden Club.

“This courtyard garden is dedicated to the members of the Geneva Garden Club, with great appreciation for their tireless work planting, tending, and nurturing, not only the seeds sown in this garden, but also the hearts of the women detainees who have joined them there, together helping to feed the community.”
